About the Viva Village Independent School

1. Vision, History and Mission

Transform Education in High-Priority Poverty Areas, by providing the best quality, independent education where it is needed most, namely in informal settlements and rural areas.

The Viva Village Independent School, Mamelodi East, was founded in 2013 with the support of Capitalworks.  In 2014 the school opened with 30 children in Grade R and a new grade has been added each year.  In 2019, we welcomed our Grade 5 learners and we are hoping to continue until we have a fully-fledged primary school.

We use converted shipping containers as classrooms and an augmented CAPS curriculum.  Our learners are also have the privilege of excellent art- and music tuition and through the partnership of other private schools such as WHPS and St. Albans College, have the opportunity to attend various sport- and culture workshops.

We are planning an additional campus at Viva Connect, Cullinan, to house the intersen phase from 2019, if funding allows.

Photos and regular updates are posted on the Viva Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/viva.village

2. How to get involved:

We urgently need sponsorships for the individual children.  The cost of education, care and the feeding scheme, exceeds the contribution that we require from parents, more than three-fold.

Please consider sponsoring a child in the Viva Village Independent School through monthly donations from R 400 [Euro 30/$35].  Donations are tax deductible in South Africa and Germany.  The actual cost is close to R 2 000.00 per child and parents make a contribution from R 400 per month as well, as far as possible.  They apply for sponsorship of the rest of the cost.
